What’s the retreat format?

Each morning, rise early with the chirping birds and head to the yoga deck if that tickles your pickle. Deliciousness will be prepared for you in the organic kitchen before a rich morning writers’ workshop. With an afternoon writing exercise, you’ll be able to share ideas over lunch before breaking-out to put pen to paper. Gathering later, there’s chance to share, feedback and discuss your creations before free-time and a divine dinner.

Seriously Playful Writers

Finesse your novel, plot your screenplay, sell your news story, get poetic and boss your Copywriting portfolio. Or writers will impart books-full of wisdom, mistakes, opportunity and insight. Down-to-earth, buckets-of-fun, and deadly serious stuff for writers, and from writers, whose word is king.

Stay On For The Ubud Writers Festival

Between 15 – 22 October 2019, our writing retreat will inspire novels, screenplays, poems, news media articles and a new breed of creative Copywriters. Perfectly timed – just before the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival – the trip gives you the chance to retreat and then grab South East Asia’s leading festival of words.

Writing retreat in a conscious Balinese village

Win this writing competition and you’ll join us at Bali Swasti, an Eco-Retreat in Ubud. Just by Monkey Forest, typical Javan wood huts provide a comfortable and inspiring base to sleep, eat, heal, read and write. Food is prepared lovingly from the on-site kitchen with much coming from the nourished and healthy soil in the organic garden. Can it get any better? Yes, actually.

Jaw-Dropping Bali

Volcanic and majestic Mount Agung, vivid jungle, postcard waterfalls and gratitude all around. Bali is one of life’s bucket-listers. If you plan to hang around beyond the retreat for the UWRF – or just to sightsee – we can show you all the unmissables.

Afternoons to Write and Relax

After lunch, sunny afternoons will be free to chill, muse, mingle and write around the pool or head into Ubud. You’ll re-group before an evening meal to share your creations and feedback as a group. Deadly serious but absolutely playful, you’ll learn lots and have a super time doing it.
