Spacious days begin with meditation, movement and freewriting

This year we’ll help you discover or recover the joy of creative writing. Days will be spacious and there will be plenty of time to spend with your own projects, explore Ubud or make new friends. Everything is optional and you can dip in and out as you wish. Here is a guide for the flow of days.

7am meditations, movements and musings

Early morning birdsong is the backdrop for a soulful guided meditation in the beautifully breezy, coconut shala. Tap into the creative stream and feel a sense of connection to space, people and the hum of nature around. After an all-level movement class and a sweet savasana, there’ll be time to sit with your journal and simply write what flows.

8.30am Balinese breakfast

A vibrant and delicious breakfast will be provided in the organic café. Tropical fruits and juices just picked from the local area, smoothie bowls and lovingly prepared warm goodies like eggs, rice and pandan pancakes. Breakfast with friends or wander back to your balcony. There’s always a positive and lively feel to the mornings here.

10am workshops to stimulate your creative Self

A 90-minute workshop will be welcoming, full of heart and easygoing. We’ll share simple concepts and invite you to partner or ponder in groups. All is designed to encourage belief, creativity, growth and community and to help you find joy in words. Feel and inspire your writing in new ways. And if you’re keen, we’ll set you a fun writing task for the day.

Writers’ lunch

Talk about your ideas with others, or grab a pack-up and head wherever Bali calls. Lunchtime is a good opportunity to ask for some 121 time about your projects.

Sunny afternoons are all yours

Some guests chill on a sun lounger and chew the fat about their latest screenplay. Others take writing tasks on and find a desk in the garden. Some hop in a taxi to see elephants, volcanoes or the beauty of Bali. We encourage it all and we can help you to organise whatever interests you.

Flexible evenings to read around the fire, go dancing, or catch a show

If you want to spend time with a group, that’s great, we will actively respond to how you feel. Or if you prefer more peaceful evenings, that’s fine too. On previous retreats, poetry around the fire has been popular, and we’ve also arranged group meals and dances.
